January Chan started to learn classical ballet (RAD) from Singapore Artistic expert Ms Tan Wan Lee at a very young age.

In 1994, Tan Sri Datin Judith Chan sponsored her to further her dance studies in Chinese Classical & Folk Dance at the Beijing Dance Academy. Upon returning home to Malaysia, January jointly started The Dance Academy Kuching (TDAK) with her sister, Mary Chan, and became the Artistic Director of TDAK.

In 1999, she introduced the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Dance Syllabus, Classical Ballet & Tap, approved by CSTD (Australia) into Kuching and now to East Malaysia. Today, TDAK offers CSTD syllabus in Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz, Tap and Contemporary dances which are under the guidance and consultation of January Chan. Currently, January is an Official Organizer for CSTD Graded Examination in East Malaysia.
